Prime Press and Compass’ Launch Event Introduces Revolutionary Collection of Children’s Educational Books

On Sunday, February 25th, 2024, at the Divani Hotel in Athens, educational publishers Prime Press and Compass Publishing invited school owners and teachers from around Greece, as well as Home Away From Home Experiences, to attend the launch event of a new collection of educational and recreational books for children.

For those involved in the international book sector, no recommendations are necessary for either Prime Press or Compass Publishing, which have recently united their forces in the distribution of the new collection of children’s educational books. On one hand, since 2016, Prime Press, led by its Editor-in-Chief and our beloved Home Away website contributor, Dr. Sama ElBatrawy, has been educating students in Egypt, Sudan, Greece, Cyprus, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Myanmar, among other countries. This initiative has made a significant impact on the education of a multitude of international students through its modernized, efficiency-driven, and optimized instructional materials tailored for learning English, French, and Arabic. Always on top of academic requirements and aligned with their motto “We Do Things Differently”, Prime Press offers numerous language learning course books, including English editions based on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) materials. Specifically, through Prime Press’s CLIL-based editions, students become articulate in English through Science, Mathematics, Computing, and Social Sciences. On the other hand, founded in 1999, Compass Publishing is a global leader in English language learning content, boasting a network of educators, business partners, and learners in over 50 countries spanning 6 continents.

In alignment with these innovative educational endeavors, the new English-speaking collection of books, featuring the Read On Phonics and Character Building series, aims to provide children and teenagers aged 4 to 16 with a comprehensive range of skills, hobbies, language learning, and family values. Available in both printed and digital formats, this collection represents a significant stride forward in educational resources. As Dr. ElBatrawy emphasized in her unique and interactive presentation at the launch event: “In this digital age where parents have little input into the information their children receive, educational entities have to find creative solutions to introduce useful information to children. The new collection combines attractive visuals and engaging activities for children to build their capabilities and character.”

Specifically, Read On is a phonics program for beginners who are just starting their journey in English reading and writing and is founded on three pillars:

1. Learning styles
2. Bloom’s Taxonomy
3. 21st-century skills

Following the SATPIN or synthetic phonics approach, which is officially required in UK schools as part of the UK curriculum, the series introduces reading and writing through phonics and blending. Letters for each sound are introduced one by one, with a story to read, a set of words to blend, and a set of vocabulary words to learn. This is supported by a variety of activities addressing the three key learning styles widely recognized: the Auditory, the Kinesthetic, and the Visual, while targeting the highest thinking levels in Bloom’s Taxonomy and building skills and knowledge students need to succeed in work, life, and citizenship.

Debuting in Greece for the first time, the Character Building Series pioneers a novel approach to character development and English language learning. Unlike anything previously available, it not only guides students to make ethical decisions and behave morally and responsibly but also enhances their social skills and fosters emotional intelligence and self-awareness. “Teaching values should be a part of the school curriculum if we want to see change in the world we live in. Arm these kids today with values and ethics they need to build their tomorrow”, highlighted Dr. Batrawy.

In more detail, the Character Building series aims to teach children, through stories, the desired traits and behaviors they need to apply in their daily lives. It is divided into 12 levels based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), covering beginner and elementary levels for kindergarten, as well as levels 1 to 4. Furthermore, the series focuses on teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners English language skills through a framework of life lessons and values.

As the launch event wound down, attendees enthusiastically explored the new collection of educational and recreational books for children. The room buzzed with excitement, reflecting the anticipation surrounding Prime Press and Compass’s latest offerings. School owners andteachers delved into the diverse materials, recognizing their potential to transform children’s learning experiences. With a focus on skill-building, language learning, and character development, the collection promises to revolutionize education in Greece and beyond. Dr. ElBatrawy’s presentation struck a chord with the audience, sparking discussions about innovative approaches to empower the next generation. As the event concluded, it was evident that a new era of education was on the horizon, filled with promise and opportunity.
